What I need to leave, and what I need to go forward

What I need to leave, and what I need to go forward

Sometimes we are carrying baggage that we've outgrown. And sometimes we are under resourced. This workshop is in 2-parts and you are welcome to come to either or both, where, using creative action methods, things that are needful to leave behind will be left. And resources needed will be gathered.

These weekend workshops are bookends to the idea of ‘where to from here?’

1) What do I need to leave behind as I venture into 2026

2) What do I need to take with me and reinforce as I move forward.

Sometimes we move forward in a confident manner while at the same time neither dropping off unwanted or unneeded baggage or neglecting to plan for the upcoming parts of our lives.

These two workshops can be done separately or together and are priced accordingly.

Saturday 31st, 1.30 pm: What do I need to leave behind as I venture into 2026

If you’ve ever tried to bring in every piece of baggage from your car after going shopping you will know what it can be like to be overloaded: fingers get twisted, things get dropped and sometimes broken, the keys aren’t where they should be, no one notices how hard this is for me, I reject all help because ‘I’m no weakling’. And sometimes this effort goes unseen and unrewarded and all for a few second saved. Doing two trips seems like way too much effort. Having done this consistently in my own life and witnessed it in others I have no idea why.

This metaphor and example is often how we move into a new year – dragging everything along with us – our disappointments, our worries and concerns, our enmities and loves. Sometimes we could just put some of them down and walk with a lighter step, more balanced, more upright and secure. Mostly we just join the throngs of folks who add a bunch of New Year resolutions onto everything else, as though they are a solution to everything that didn’t go as planned.

This workshop will invite recall and investigation of what didn’t go as planned in 2025, what was successful, what was a disaster, or what was completely forgotten. What has been developed, is still developing, or what can be legitimately laid to rest.

Sun 1 March, 9.30 am - 1.30 pm:

You’ve heard the phrase ‘If you fail to plan you plan to fail’.

Well, while not true all of the time, it is true enough. And Australian culture is not particularly known for its culture of planning the way, say Germans are, or the Swiss are. We are better known for our larrikin behaviour which might also be called unplanned attempts to just get it down.

This workshop will pay particular attention to your perceived needs for the upcoming year. You may well clarify directions where they are unclear. You might change decisions made in haste. You may decide to really work on what you need to ideally and competently carry off the year as you see it or need it to be.

In both these session we will be using concretisation, reflection, and ample space for the arrival of spontaneity and creativity, and giving thoughtful creative consideration to what’s coming next will likely lead to some novel and useful plans increasing the likelihood of getting it done.
